With a well-known and proven World War Two combat record on No 222 Squadron when based at RAF Hornchurch, Essex, in 1943, the Old Flying Machine Company's Spitfire LFIX MH434 is arguably the most famous example of the Supermarine fighter. Between December 1943 and March 1944, 222 made a temporary move away to Woodvale, Merseyside, during which period No 350 (Belgian) Squadron took its place at Hornchurch. This involved taking over all the former No 222 Squadron Spitfires. Coded MN-B, MH434 was duly flown by 350, continuing to perform bomber escort missions.
