The reaction of carbon disulfide with diethyl 3-amino-2-cyano-2-penten-1,5-dicarboxylate: A convenient synthesis of polyfunctionally substituted thiophenes and their fused derivatives

Carbon disulfide added to the active methylene group in1in basicDMFat room temperature to yield the non-isolable 1:1 adduct2.In-situcyclization of the latter with some α-bromo compounds afforded the corresponding polyfunctionally substituted thiophenes5. The reactivity of5towards a variety of reagents was studied. Chemical and spectroscopic evidences for the structure of the new compounds are provided
