It is often very difficult to get students to really understand what is happening mathematically in a classroom setting. Further, getting the students engaged so that they want to grasp the underlying concepts is even more troubling. One method sure to work is to force the students to participate in an activity which illustrates the principle. One of my favorite #x201C;human object lessons#x201D; illustrates Euler's method by playing games. In a small group setting, these activities really help students understand what Euler's method does.
