Ion cyclotron singlehyphen; and multiplehyphen;resonance spectroscopy have been used to identify and examine the energetics of ionhyphen;molecule reactions in which H3Oplus;and H3Splus;are involved either as product or reactant. The reactions observed provide narrow limits for the gashyphen;phase proton affinities of these species, giving 164thinsp;plusmn;thinsp;4 kcal/mole for H2O and 178thinsp;plusmn;thinsp;2 kcal/mole for H2S.
