Impact Analysis of Software Processes for SPI in Indian SMEs

In the world today, there is a constant emphasis placed on the importance of quality within software organizations. Software process improvement is an aspect within software management. Management however comprises of three crucial steps; definition of software process, control and software improvement. There is a linkage between SPI and product quality. This is because the latter is dependent upon the continuous improvement of the process quality. Such quality can only be improved through Software Process Improvement. This paper reports the findings of the survey carried out in small and medium software organizations of India. This exploratory study identifies the significant software processes; finds a relationship among them; assesses and analyzes type of risk associated in the identified and related process pairs; and finally the impact analysis of process groups for SPI in SMEs has been carried out. The risk analysis of the processes assesses the impact of one process on other. Further, correlating processes after risk analysis with other processes facilitate to find the impact of software processes on SPI. The key objective of the survey has to explore and investigate the effective and efficient processes relationships and associated risks which can enhance the quality of the software processes implementation.
