The complex dielectric behavior of ice doped with HCl has been measured in the concentration range 2thinsp;times;thinsp;10minus;6to 2thinsp;times;thinsp;10minus;4M. The dissociation of HCl in ice was calculated as a function of temperature for ice doped at 2thinsp;times;thinsp;10minus;6M. The results at 1thinsp;times;thinsp;10minus;5Mand below conform to the Debye model with a single relaxation time. The data suggest that, in a limited concentration range, HCl is substitutionally incorporated into the ice lattice.
