Lattice bodies and filament bundles in apothecial cells of the fungusAscobolus

Electron microscopy of non-sporogenous cells of the apothecium ofAscobolushas revealed the presence in the cytoplasm of numerous compact bodies characteristically constructed of membranous tubules arranged as a cubic lattice and compact bundles of numerous 200ensp;Aring; filaments. These structures have never been described in fungi before, and their possible relationships to each other, and to similar structures in plant cells are discussed.
