In this splendid painting, commissioned to mark 50 years of jet-powered transatlantic passenger services, award-winning aviation artist Patricia Forrest GAvA dramatically captures the first westbound British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) de Havilland Comet 4 against a backdrop of 1958 New York. On October 4 of that year BOAC beat its rival, Pan American, to the introduction of jet services by just three weeks in a bold and unexpected simultaneous operation of east- and westbound Comet 4 services between London and New York.
