The infrared spectra of LiI, LiBr, and LiCl in the gas phase have been measured in the region of the fundamental vibration frequency. The vibrational frequencies are calculated from the observed spectra to beLiIthinsp;thinsp;ohgr;eequals;501thinsp;cmminus;1LiBrthinsp;ohgr;eequals;576thinsp;cmminus;1LiClthinsp;ohgr;eequals;662thinsp;cmminus;1.There is no evidence in the spectra for the existence of appreciable quantities of dimeric molecules, the estimated dimer concentration being thus restricted to less than 15.The apparatus used appears suitable for absorption measurements above 2000deg;C.
