In the pathhyphen;integral formulation of quantum mechanics, the response of a system of charges to a static magnetic field is determined by the flux enclosed by the particle paths. In particular, the diamagnetic susceptibility is proportional to the meanhyphen;squared path area normal to the field. This relation is derived, discussed, and illustrated by computing the diamagnetic susceptibility for excitons and biexcitons in a spherical sample of semiconductor material (quantum dot model).
