Forces at lowminus; and highminus;speed limits in magnetic levitation systems

We consider the lift and drag forces on dc current coils moving over an infinitely large conducting slab (track). With respect to the dominant Fourier component of the current, simple analytical expressions for several limiting cases in both repulsive and attractive systems are derived. These results are compared with those in the literature and we delineate the precise conditions under which the approximations are valid.
