AbstractIn the context of increasing applications of zirconium in the chemical processing industry the influence of anodic oxidation at low potentials on the corrosion resistance of zirconium has been studied. Experiments were performed in concentrated sulphuric acid media, using electrochemical methods. A transition range of potentials between −65 and −50 mV/SCE has been observed. On each side of this transition range hafnided zirconium covered with passive film exhibits different corrosion resistance. Alteration of the passive film, which can be assumed from nuclear microanalysis experiments, has been hypothesized to take account for the modification of the electrochemical behavi
