On december 19 three Lockheed L-1649 Starliners were acquired by Deutsche Lufthansa Berlin-Stiftung (DLBS) for $748,000 at a public bankruptcy auction in Portland, Maine. Hamburg-based Lufthansa Technik will mastermind the rebuild of one of these aircraft, N7316C,to flying condition at Auburn-Lewiston in Maine, where a restoration hangar will be built. It is hoped to fly the aircraft to Germany during 2010, after which it will join Junkers Ju 52/3m D-CDLH on the airworthy DLBS fleet.
