This note concerns a mathematical aspect of Magee and Funabashi's treatment of excitation migration in their linear chain model of coupled systems J. Chem. Phys.34,1715 (1961). Their derivation of the rate of excitation migration is subject to the condition that the initially excited member is located sufficiently distant from either end of the linear chain. This restriction can be eliminated by a certain modification of the model and their result is rehyphen;derived exactly in the modified model.
