Magnetohyphen;optical memory media using BaTiON protective films

A new protective and enhancing film for magnetohyphen;optical memory mediamdash;BaTiON has been developed. The values of refractive index and extinction coefficient of the film were 2.75 and 0, respectively. Calculations give maximum Kerr rotation angles of 1.4 deg for threehyphen;layerhyphen;type media and more than 10 deg for reflectivehyphen;layerhyphen;type media when such a film is used to enhance the rotation. The magnetohyphen;optical memory media using the film showed excellent recording characteristics.
