Soil water potential, leaf water potential, and stomatal conductance ofCakile edentula(Bigelow) Hooker were compared between beach and foredune habitats on Currituck Bank, North Carolina. All three variables were significantly lower on the foredune than on the beach. Low soil water potential on the foredune may contribute to low survival and growth inhibition by lowering leaf water potential and stomatal conductance.
