GERMAN demand for nickel is growing, traders are widely reporting, but the quantities involved are on the low side and infrequent. With the European physical nickel market remaining lacklustre in the main, and the Japanese market suffering, the reported rejuvenation of the German market is somewhat of an anomaly. "Demand in Germany is picking up and looking good, enquiries are increasing and business is actually being done," a trader said. However, the tonnages involved in these transactions are on the smaller side, traders admitted. "In one month we have sold around 300-400 tonnes of nickel cathode on the German market," a trader said. "The German plating market is good," said another, adding that premiums in Germany are increasing.
