Intramolecular Carbon Isotope Effects in the Decarboxylation of Malonic Acid and Bromomalonic Acid

The intramolecular isotope effects in the decarboxylation of C13and C14carboxylhyphen;labeled malonic and bromomalonic acids have been determined. The observed C13effects are in agreement with the results of other investigators; the C14effects are in partial agreement with earlier published results of one of the authors. The ratio of C14to C13effects is found to be near 3.6.
