摘要

Wavelet transform is a new, mathematical transform method, that investigation has been carried out since 1980's. As it permits high-quality time-frequency analyses through simple calculations, this method has come to be extensively utilized in various fields. We have carried out a series of investigations of this technique, especially utilizing its capability to improve signal-to-noise ratios of signals or images acquired by various devices. At first, this report presents a simple explanation of the wavelet transform and its noteworthy advantages, then, refers to two examples of our investigations the noise reduction of signals in optical emission spectrometry and the improvement of the quality of images in X-ray computed tomography (X-ray CT). We confirm wavelet transform could bring out remarkable benefits to signal or image processing of various kind of devices.
