An Integrated and Commercially Viable Approach for Managing Spent Pot Liner

Spent pot liners which are highly toxic in nature, is being discarded by all aluminum smelter plants in very large quantities. Being highly toxic and voluminous in quantity, its disposal is a major challenge to all scientist and engineer engaged in mis area of metal extraction. Authors of this article experimented with drastic chemical oxidation of these toxic wastes in order to separate toxic contaminants from its valuable carbon content Carbon powder recovered by this means have short range order and thus can be processed to produce a number of valuable finished industrial carbon products. It is hoped that such an integrated approach of decontaminating spent pot liner and simultaneous value addition to the waste, will offer a better technoeconomic feasibility of managing these toxic wastes.
