Though many nuclear reactors have been offline since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, Japan has sufficient refining capacity in case a summer heat wave drives up the demand for oil-fired electricity generation, according to the Akihiki Tembo, president of the Petroleum Association of Japan (PAJ). However, the top official of Japan's oil refining industry believes that the Japanese government should acquire oil product supplies in case of natural disasters.
