A photothermal technique for measuring the intensity of concentrated sunlight is described. In this technique chopped concentrated sunlight is allowed to impinge on a black metal plate, to produce a timehyphen;varying surface temperature, which is measured by an infrared radiometer followed by a lockhyphen;in amplifier. By calibrating this system with a solar cell in the range in which the cell shorthyphen;circuit current is known to vary linearly with light intensity, high ratios of solar concentration can be determined. Using this technique, we found the shorthyphen;circuit current of ann+psolar cell to be linear with concentration up to 410 suns.
