Multinodular Goiter With a Huge Infected Cyst

A 71-year-old female aborigine in Taiwan suffered from chills, fever, tenderness, and progressive enlargement of goiter. Tc-99m thyroid and Ga-67 scans revealed a huge ovoid shape photon-deficient mass and increased uptake around the mass, respectively. Aspiration of the huge cyst produced blood-stained pus from whichStaphylococcus aureuswas isolated. Operative findings revealed a huge cyst from the left lobe of the thyroid in a multinodular goiter.
