S4N4reacts with Br2in CS2or CCl4to give several compounds: S4N3Br, S4N3Br3, S3N2Br2and (SNBr0,33)x. The thiazyl bromides are insoluble in non polar solvents. The composition of the precipitate depends on the concentration of Br2and on the reaction temperature: at the boiling temperature of the solution only pure S4N3Br3is obtained, at room temperature, a mixture of the three compounds is formed, S3N2Br2is always produced with S4N3Br and S4N3Br3. S4N3Br3can be obtained also by the reaction of S4N3Cl and CsBr3dissolved in polar anhydrous solvents.
