Marathon is preparing to roll out splash-blended gasohol in the highly-competitive Tampa market next spring, Oil ress learns. It will be the first time ethanol blends have been sold in Florida since the early 80's, when sales efforts were crushed by logistics and fuel performance worries. Florida marketers aren't thrilled. The state uses about 26 million gals/day of gasoline, and 2004 and 2005 hurricanes underscored the antiquated nature of its storage infrastructure against the backdrop of "just in time" inventory practices. Converting tankage to ethanol storage could further stress the system, they say.
