Synchronous gametogenesis inChlamydomonas reinhardtiiis accompanied by a round of cell division. Some of the unmated gametes become naked at daughter cell liberation. A sporangial wall-lytic enzyme, which is excreted into the medium at zoospore liberation, acts on the wall of the gametic cell.
