Detection of the dermo-epidermal boundary from cross-sectional slices with instrument of image process has been a very important method to observe the alteration of dermo-epidermal boundary before and after using cosmetics for evaluating effect of cosmetics. In this paper applying cross-sectional slices taken by confocal microscope as the object. In general, however variational approaches do not allow directive and natural enforcement of 3D image data, and can not guarantee optimal information for 3D reconstruction. In this study, a new method of 3D edge detection and 3D reconstruction based on active contour model-active open surface model was discussed. Active open surface model is the 3D extension of active contour model. A snake of active open surface model is a curve surface, guided by external constraint force and influenced by image force that pull it towerd the optimal surface of object. As a specific example of the efficicacy of active open surface model, an application of analyzing confocal microscope images in human being's skin is described.
