I read with great interest this study of factors influencing the functional outcome of purulent flexor tenosynovitis. In this retrospective study of 41 patients, the authors compared groups treated by drainage through small incisions vs. a Bruner's incision; and intraoperative irrigation alone vs. continuous postoperative irrigation for several days. They conclude that limited incision drainage and continuous postoperative irrigation had a significantly better outcome, expressed in total active motion (TAM).
