Scientific research in China is receiving enhanced support from both the government and the public, as science and technology are playing an increasingly constructive role in the country's social progress and economic growth, states CAS President Lu Yongxiang. Prof. Lu, who is also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remark during his recent interview with Mr. Geoff Watts, a reporter from the BBC World Service. He gave his opinions on various ST issues, ranging from domestic ST development, genetically-modified products and stem cells to international cooperation.
