A Line Grid Method in Areal Sampling and its Connection with some Early Work of H. Robbins

An unbiased estimate of a sum of two dimensional areas is obtained using a line grid method. A formula for the variance and nthmoment is derived for the case of a single area. Connections with Robbins's measure of random sets and with integral geometry are discussed.
