Reactions of the methyl esters of aroyl pyruvic acid (aroyl = benzoyl, p-chlorobenzoyl, p-bromobenzoyl and p-methylbenzoyl) with 2-isopropoxy-4H-1, 3, 2-benzodioxaborin, 2-isoptopoxy-1, 3, 2-benzodioxaborole and 2-isopropoxy-5, -5-dimethyldioxaborinane have been carried out. The resultant compounds having the general formula OGOBOC(R):CHCOCOOMe (where G = C6H4, C6H4CH2, CH2C(CH3)2CH2; R = C6H5, p-ClC6H4, p-BrC6H4and p-CH3C6H4) have been characterised by elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations and their probable structures are suggested on the basis of i.r. and p. m.r. spectral evidences.
