The Alaska Highway natural gas pipeline project took a giant step forward with the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) by six major U.S. energy firms and three Canadian firms. The companies are proceeding with development of a proposal to transport Alaskan natu-ral gas to markets and present a proposal to the Alaska North Slope producers by year-end. Once an agreement is reached with the producers, the companies intend to move forward and deliver Alaskan gas to Canada and the U.S. by 2008.
