A Valuable Technology

In the village of Woodridge, Illinois, Department of Public Works employees are becoming less dependent on shovels these days. In December 2001, the department took delivery of its first hydro-excavator. Originally, its intention was to use a trailer vacuum unit to clean out valve boxes, buffalo boxes, and manholes. Since taking delivery of the new unit, however, the list of applications has grown.
