This report refers to our newly developed method of holographic optical element analysis. The conventional analytical method, which utilizes the coupled wave theory and the rigorous coupled wave analysis, permits the calculation only of ideally fabricated holograms. Our newly developed method, by contrast, permits reliable analysis of the behaviors of real holograms under actual conditions where holograms are produced and are then practically used. This method also uses various parameters, which provide information on characteristics of such a hologram and are freely selected to be useful for a particular purpose. This method permits clarification of the mechanism of the apparent increase of higher order diffractions which cannot be generated under ideal conditions. We have named the mechanism "Degenerated Complex Diffraction".
