AbstractIt is usual to use finite‐difference methods in carrying out the time integration of the equations of motion as adapted to the prediction of the large‐scale atmospheric pattern, and this implies a choice of the mesh length and time increment to be used. The effect of changing the size and orientation of the mesh upon the computed values of the vorticities and their advection is examined, and the resulting differences between 24‐hr predictions are shown to be impo
