The advent of prenatal ultrasonography has allowed for the detection of various in utero anomalies. Early detection of these conditions allows for a better understanding of their natural history and may alter the decision-making process concerning appropriate management. The literature from the past year includes the detection and ultimate outcome of fetal hydronephrosis, various predictors of renal dysplasia, and the detection of such diverse conditions as vesicoureteric reflux, ureterovaginal anomalies, ovarian cysts, unilateral empty renal fossa, and horseshoe kidney. A report of the usefulness of transvaginal sonography is also reviewed.
