We estimated the bit error rates BERs in high-transfer-rate optical disk recording using transfer functions derived from reproduced pulses. We found that the amplitude characteristics of the rising edges of pulses recorded without using any recording strategy were no different from the frequency response recorded using a recording strategy. We also found that BERs at various conditions could be easily estimated by simulation using the transfer function of reproduced pulses. We estimated BERs at 100Mbps for various recording velocities. We also estimated the maximum transfer rate for high recording velocity.
