On 13 September, the UK government published its response to a public consultation on the new Radio Equipment Directive (RED) which is set to replace the existing RTTE Directive 1999/5/EC. With reference to a draft text issued by the European Commission in October 2012, the UK government has endorsed many of the views expressed by industry both concerning the need to safeguard against increased administrative burdens and to ensure that a revised scope does not create ambiguity for the application of different CE Mark legislation.
