Active contour models are proposed to extract objects from images and are applied to many applications such as edge detection, motion tracking and image matching. However these models are powerful and flexible tools for image processing, their processing speed and hardware amounts are remained should be solved. They are developed as software programs of computers and processing speed and hardware amounts of them are heavily depend on those of computers. Because of these problems, it is very hard to apply these models to stand-alone video signal processing systems. In this paper, their hardware realization on FPGA is examined for development of stand-alone real time video processing systems. Construction of it and experimental results are included to show effectiveness of the proposed system.
