Dear Sir, Traditional computer games consoles use a handheld device with controls that are manipulated by the fingers. However the Nintendo Wii~(TM) (pronounced 'wee') has a wireless controller, which is used as a handheld pointing device. It can detect acceleration in three dimensions, encouraging control of games through movement of the whole upper limb and body. It contains built-in accelerometers and infrared detection to sense its position in 3-D space and communicates with the base unit using Bluetooth. This enables participation in games such as tennis, golf, boxing, baseball or bowling, and the game Wii Fit has been released to promote health and fitness, by activities such as press-ups, sit-ups and simulated skiing.
