Effect of Fluctuations of Network Quality to Users' Communication Behavior during Web Browsing

As the contents of the Internet become richer, quality of communication network plays a key role in determining the perceived experience of users. Consequently, understanding both QoS of the communication network and QoE of users, in terms of user and network interaction, are becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we analyze the effect of fluctuations of network quality on user behavior in a flow of web browsing. We utilize a method to convert passively monitored telecommunication traffic into units of user actions and behaviors which correlates highly with the QoE of users. We show that 1) the fluctuations of the network qualities have an effect on user's behavior; smaller fluctuation results in higher continue ratio, and 2) smaller fluctuations i.e. more stable quality of the network results in longer life of user's web browsing.
