It is known that an optical wave guide (PBS waveguide) formed by introducing line defect in 2D photonic crystal has strong optical confinement. And it is known that the light of specific wavelength localizes at an impurity rod embedded in photonic crystal. The wavelength of the localized mode depends on the refractive index and filling faction of the impurity rod. We propose new models for microsize optical switch, constructed by PBS waveguide and the third-order nonlinear media rod. In this paper we consider only optical Kerr effect and expect that the resonance of the impurity rod enhances Kerr effect. We analyzed the optical switch/limiter properties of the new models using nonlinear FDTD method, which involves only optical Kerr effect.
