Studies on the fixation of disperse and bi-functional reactive dyes on Polyester / Cotton blends using Sodium formate in a single stage process is discussed and the results are compared with conventional method of printing. Printing was carried out on 100 Polyester, 100 cotton and 67: 33,60 : 40 and 48 : 52 Polyester / Cotton blends. Disperse and reactive dye combinations used were, Foron Brill Orange RL/ Drim. Orange F2RI, Foron Rubine S2GFLI/Drim. Red F3B and Foron Navy S2GRLI/Drim. Navy Blue F2GI, at 1 and 2 depth of shade. Sodium formate concentration was optimized for each dye. Results of the study revealed that Sodium formate method showed higher colour value as compared to conventional method of printing using urea, citric acid and alkali. Former method showed marginal flushing. Fastness to wash, rubbing, light and perspiration were comparable.
