utrif; Ropinirole is a potent and selective synthetic dopamine D2receptor agonist that has been developed for the symptomatic treatment of patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease.utrif; Clinical studies of ropinirole as monotherapy have shown that it improves motor function. Preliminary 6-month results of a 5-year study indicate that ropinirole has similar efficacy to levodopa in patients with Hoehn and Yahr stage I to II Parkinson's disease.utrif; Ropinirole had at least similar activity to bromocriptine, when these agents were administered alone or with selegiline (deprenyl), as shown by preliminary 6-month results of a 3-year study.utrif; In studies of ropinirole as an adjunct to levodopa, it decreased the amount of time patients with motor fluctuations spent in the lsquo;offrsquo; phase and allowed a reduction in the levodopa dosage.utrif; Ropinirole is generally well tolerated, with a range of adverse effects typical of that of the dopamine agonist class of drugs.
