The Complete Work of Charles Darwin Online (or Darwin Online) beganin 2002 to assemble in one scholarly website all of Darwin's publishedwritings and unpublished papers — apart from his unpublished letters whichwere already the focus of the Correspondence of Charles Darwin. DarwinOnline is the largest and most widely used edition of Darwin's writingsever published. More copies of Darwin's works have been downloadedfrom Darwin Online than were published in the 19th century and it is likelymore than have been printed by all publishers combined. The site containsover 86,000 pages of searchable text and 200,000 electronic images. Itcontains at least one exemplar of all known Darwin publications, repro-duced to the highest scholarly standards, both as searchable text and colourimages of the originals. The majority of these have been edited andannotated with thousands of original editorial notes for the first time.
