With the increasing use of geosynthetics in civil engineering applications, the geosynthetic industryhas developed new and more sophisticated materials. As improved geosynthetics are beingintroduced, it is necessary to assess their durability with respect to the environmental conditions thatthey will be exposed to. This requires the development of accelerated tests permitting the degradationprediction of geosynthetics in actual use. To address this need, a basic auto-oxidation scheme (BAS)has been adapted so as to develop a kinetic model for evaluating their mechanical degradation. Basedon the experimental data, the model provides estimates of strength loss with time caused bythermo-oxidation.
