Since early 2003 there have been several publications, some at government level across the world (e.g. the UK, Denmark, France, Canada, Netherlands), highlighting issues relating to the imminent development of a range of nanotechnologies.1-8 Issues involve two main areas: opportunities and human healthrisks.~(9-11)The first focuses on the new fields, uses and prospects for whichnanotechnology can be employed. The second focuses on concerns and challengeswhich so far have not been well investigated.°
