Two hundred and twenty-five women received clomiphene therapy for anovulation and sterility over a prolonged period. Fifty-one did not become pregnant, despite signs of ovulation, and regressive changes were noted in the quality and quantity of cervical mucus. In this group, clomiphene and quinestrol, a new synthetic estrogen, were given in a combined manner. Cervical mucus improved in 76.4percnt;; 12 (23percnt;) pregnancies were achieved. Combined treatment with clomiphene and quinestrol may be useful in patients in whom clomiphene fails to induce pregnancy and a hostile cervical mucus develops.
