Five pigment-protein complexes were isolated from digitonin-solubilized thylakoids ofFucus serratususing sucrose density gradient centrifugation. Two heavy fractions corresponded to PS I and PS II antennae with their active reaction-centers. A light fraction was identified as a light-harvesting antenna, while the two other fractions were not very well defined. The light-harvesting fractions contained the major part of the C16:1-trans-phosphatidylglycerol. The results are discussed and compared with those from Chl a/b plants taking into account the basic organization of brown alga chloroplasts.
