In a homogeneously built residential area located between two roads flooded with heavy traffic, noise immission measurements were performed prior to and subsequent to building a new bypass road. Comparing the actually measured results to earlier results which were obtained during a former investigation, sound level differences could be determined in situ. Calculation methods designed to predict the sound propagation under two linear sound sources will be presented. It will be shown that sound level differences are individually perceived from a difference threshold of 5 dB (A) onwards, and that there is in fact a linear correlation between an individual's subjective perception and the actually measured results.
